CANADA MUST OPPOSE US CONSULATE FOR PALESTINIAN ARABS; ISRAEL’S SOVEREIGNTY THREATENED
The Biden administration is threatening to unilaterally impose the opening of a U.S. consulate in Jerusalem, in spite of Israel’s fierce opposition. It is also allowing a Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) office to again operate in Washington. The proposed consulate would provide separate diplomatic outreach to the Palestinian Arabs, who are currently are served in the US Embassy in Jerusalem.
Can Canada be far behind? The Trudeau government continues to give money to the Palestinian Arabs despite the fact that President of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas, has been exposed as a corrupt dictator who runs a police state. He continues to incite violence against Israel; administer a program of pay-for-slay to give terrorists money for killing Jews and then honours such murderers in a myriad of ways. His own people have risen against him recently, protesting the corruption of the government, lining their own pockets, while they suffer. The children are weaponized, and are trained to kill and be killed.
In addition to funding UNRWA with $110 million, an organization proven to fund incitement and terrorism in its educational system, in December 2020 the Canadian government gave the Palestinians $90 million, then in May 2021 another $25 million.
If a Palestinian Arab-US consulate in Jerusalem opens, it will be the first step in dividing Jerusalem and recognising false Palestinian Arab claims to ownership of the city. It will also reward Palestinian Arab intransigence, rejectionism, incitement and terrorism against Israeli Jews.
Opening this consulate sabotages Israeli sovereignty. According to Eugene Kontorovich, professor of law, opening a consulate without the permission of the host government is not consistent with international law. ”By locating a diplomatic mission for Palestinian Arabs in Jerusalem, (the US) is quite clearly doing this to ratify Palestinian claims to Jerusalem,” he said. “So they shouldn’t be surprised that Israel can’t allow that.”
Not only are most Israelis against this, Jews around the world are outraged; Jerusalem is the heart of Jewish life and history, its spiritual soul. There is no East or West Jerusalem. There in only one, never divided except after the illegal offensive war waged by Jordan in 1948 and occupied until 1967 when it was liberated by Israel. Now we have propaganda by the PA in the attempt by Abbas and his ilk, to reclaim part of Jerusalem, the first step to their larger claim over the whole of Israel.
Prime Minister Bennett has no objection to a US consulate in Ramala , the current operating capital of the PA. That would be logical. But the Palestinian Arabs have been open about why they are demanding the consulate reopen in Jerusalem. They will not accept any other location. PA Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said that the PA viewed the consulate as “the seed of a US. embassy in the state of Palestine.”
But many in the United States Republican party are opposing the opening of an illegal US-Palestinian Arab consulate in Jerusalem. They have proposed a bill opposing this and blocking funding for a consulate in Jerusalem to serve the interests of the PA dictatorship regime. Two hundred Republican congressmen sent a letter to President Biden protesting the opening of such a consulate , saying that it would promote the division of Israel’s capital and that this would be “unacceptable, shameful and wrong,” and inconsistent with US law.
